Stretch4Syria Yogathon

Two friends were so deeply moved by the tragic stories of people fleeing Syria that they decided to put their passion for yoga to good use. maysa

With this in mind, Sophia and Maysa created Hero Yoga. Be a part of their first event, Stretch4Syria Yogathon, an all day fundraiser, coming up on 10 January 2016 in North London.

Set An Intention For A Great Cause

The Stretch4Syria Yogathon is taking place at the Sobell Leisure Centre in Finsbury Park in North London.  We have this amazingly spacious yoga studio there, which we are hoping to fill with hope and good intentions. We feel the day itself is the perfect place for drawing a line under the party season and setting resolutions for 2016.

Starting at 10:40 am there will be six classes through the day to choose from.

Our first class, ‘Rise and Shine’ eases you into the day with a slow paced, yet strong flow.  We pick up the pace throughout the day with various styles of yoga taught by 6 teachers, winding down towards the end of the day and ending with a  final savasana at 5pm. Best of all, you can book as many as 3 of these classes for a small donation of £15. We are lucky to have six amazing teachers donating their time on the day, and the classes are accessible for all levels from complete beginners to advanced practitioners.  You can take one class, or more! It’s the ideal event for bringing along a friend and taking on the challenge together!

We also have some great sponsors, including Draze Magazine,  Skin + Tonic, Vita Coco, Om Bar, Wild Thyme Foods, and PositiviTEA providing treats for the yogis, and our mats are provided by Lululemon! The event is a way of bringing people together in a space to share hope, compassion and yoga.

The Charities

Proceeds from the Stretch4Syria event will be shared between four charities that help refugees both in and outside of Syria.

  • The Starfish Foundation

The Starfish Foundation operates in the Greek port town of Molyvos, acting as one of the first points of contact to refugees making the perilous crossing from Turkey. They provide warm clothing and aid to people who arrive with nothing.

  • Hand in Hand for Syria

Since 2011 this charity has been helping displaced people within Syria, bringing medical care and aid to people in some of the hardest-to-reach places in the country.

  • Aid Box Convoy

A team of Bristol-based volunteers that distribute supplies such as clothes and food to people in camps in Northern France.

  • Care International

Care International provide vital aid to people inside Syria and refugee families in neighbouring countries including Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

Care International have said, “We are delighted to hear that Hero-Yoga have chosen to support our Syria Crisis appeal through the #stretch4syria Yogathon. Taking part in the #stretch4syria Yogathon will ensure that Care is able to reach many more who have been affected by the conflict.”
