Join Catherine Annis for a nourishing and informative workshop exploring the psoas muscles -deep, powerful muscles that play a vital role in how we move, breathe, and feel. Learning to care for the psoas can release deep-seated tension, ease back pain, and support overall wellbeing.

What are the Psoas muscles anyway?

The psoas muscles are the deepest muscles in our body They connect the spine, diaphragm, and legs, supporting posture, spinal stability, hip movement, and breathing. Because they’re involved in almost every movement – walking, running, and sitting – patterns of tightness or imbalance may contribute to lower back, pelvic, or hip discomfort.

Although highly sensitive and responsive, the psoas can be difficult to consciously feel, which is why gentle awareness and targeted practices can be  so valuable.

Why do I need to know about the psoas muscles?

By understanding and working with the psoas, we can bring more awareness to the  way we move, and breathe. Supporting these muscles may  help, improve ease of movement, encourage a sense of steadiness and calm and contribute to feeling more grounded and at home in ourselves.

What to expect:

In this workshop we’ll explore:

  • The role of the  psoas in movement, posture and breath
  • Perspectives on the psoas as a responsive and sensitive muscle (it’s sometimes referred to as the “muscle of emotion”)
  • Gentle, effective practices to release unnecessary tension and support a healthy spine
  • Ways to support the  lower back, release stress, and ease digestive discomfort
  • The relationship between the psoas and the breath
