Get proactive about your bone health with Sally Parkes’ Strong Bones workshop. Understand how bones stay healthy; why exercise matters, and what we can safely do at home to support bone density, feel stronger and more confident, at any stage of life.

What we’ll gain from this workshop:

  • A practical understanding of how exercise can help maintain and improve bone density
  • Clear, research-led guidance (without overwhelm or jargon)
  • Three simple, repeatable movement practices to use at home
  • Confidence to move safely if you have osteopenia or osteoporosis
  • A downloadable digital handout to support your learning and ongoing practice

Why bones need movement.

Once we reach adulthood, it’s easy to assume our bones are fixed and unchanging. In reality, bones are living, dynamic tissue. They are constantly being broken down and rebuilt through a remarkable internal system known as osseous tissue — a complex ecosystem of minerals, blood vessels and specialised cells working together.

These key bone cells include:

  • Osteoclasts, which remove old or damaged bone
  • Osteoblasts, which build new bone tissue
  • Osteocytes, which monitor bone health and signal when remodelling is needed
  • Osteogenic cells, which create new osteoblasts

Exercise plays a vital role in keeping this system healthy. Weight-bearing and resistance-based movement place gentle mechanical stress on the skeleton, stimulating bone-building cells to strengthen and thicken the bones. Without regular movement, bone loss can occur more quickly.

What we’ll cover:

During this live online workshop, Sally will guide you through:

  • The anatomy of bone and how bone cells communicate and renew
  • How different types of exercise directly influence bone density
  • The role of nutrition in supporting bone cell maintenance and repair
  • A review of the latest research on exercise and bone health

We’ll then put this knowledge into practice with three 20-minute yoga- and Pilates-inspired body-weight sessions, designed to be repeated easily at home (with adaptations for those with osteopenia or osteoporosis).

This is an empowering, evidence-based session designed to help you look after your bones, and those of your students and clients, for the long term — with clarity, confidence and care.

Who is this workshop for?

Anyone interested in deepening their understanding of the skeleton, especially over 50s

Anyone who wants to improve the well-being of their students and clients, especially those who teach those in mid-and senior years

No prior yoga or Pilates experience needed. Adaptations will also be provided for individuals with bone conditions such as osteopenia and osteoporosis. Please message Sally directly so she’s aware of the necessary adaptations: info@sallyparkesyoga.com

Cost

We know that our community sometimes face real cost-dilemmas and that our wellbeing practices can be the first to suffer when life gets hard. We’re here for you.

We therefore offer a ‘Pay As You Feel’ for our MFML workshops.

There is a suggested price, which we ask you to pay, if you have the means. The suggested price is the ‘true cost’ of running the workshop, and this is £35.

If, however, finances are getting in the way of you joining, you are welcome to pay what you can afford so that you can still benefit and participate. This is the Buddhist system of Dana. The minimum that we can accept is £15, because as a small business we similarly need to be mindful of our cost considerations.
