We are always on the go. I know I have the speedy London walk and by nature I\u2019m fairly impatient and impetuous. To be still is hard. To maintain a level of attention is also a challenge. And to not get caught up comparing myself to someone else.<\/p>\n<p>We have to let go of thinking, \u201cI can\u2019t do this\u2026\u201d or \u201cI used to be able to do that\u2026&#8221;,\u00a0I encourage people approach their practice as \u201chere I am right here in this body, right now as it actually is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Yin yoga gives us a chance to slow down.<\/b> It gives us the chance to take our time. It gives us the chance to create space where we can be more aware of how distracted we can be.<\/p>\n<p>Yin is a very soft, slow form of yoga. It gives us time to be more gentle to ourselves. It can be a great antidote to the rest of our busy lives.\u00a0In western culture it\u2019s all about striving for the goal and we push ourselves too hard. And there\u2019s always more goals. Where does it end?<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Yin Yoga For Freedom | Normal Blair | Online Yoga | Movement for Modern Life\" width=\"680\" height=\"383\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eowsbag_h20?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>We need to be gentle with ourselves whilst also applying a bit of a push.<\/b> When someone\u2019s doing a dance class, they can be far less striving and goal orientated than someone doing a yoga class. It\u2019s about what we bring to the situation. It\u2019s about working on ourselves and transformation.<\/p>\n<p>Yin has really helped to open my body. When I first started yoga I was stiff. I know there\u2019s teachers who come from a place where they\u2019re naturally really gifted in their bodies, but I wasn\u2019t one of them. It can be an asset to experience stiffness, a lack of coordination, difficulty with body parts and injuries. It allows you to see how much potential there is for change.\u00a0I enjoy how yoga adds awareness to the way I live my life and the way I interact with those around me.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a book written about a Buddhist nun called Tenzin Palmo: \u2018A Cave in the Snow\u2019 and she talked about how great it would be if when we meet people on the street, our first thought were: \u201cmay they be happy and well\u201d. Not judging them on the way they look or the clothes they\u2019re wearing. Not thinking \u201cI don\u2019t like you\u201d or \u201cyou remind me of so and so\u201d. It\u2019s these unconscious conversations in our head.<\/p>\n<p><b>Part of the practice is becoming aware<\/b> of these conversations and just seeing people and things for their natural beauty.\u00a0For me yoga is a process of exploration: Where is my mind right now? Where am I feeling this pose in my body? And the stillness of yin yoga allows you to come into relationship with these thoughts and feelings. We\u2019re often so separate from our bodies. I enjoy the process of becoming aware.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s why I enjoy yin yoga.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/profile\/normanblair\">Sound good?
