In a world that constantly tells us to \u2018love ourselves first\u2019 and that before we can truly be happy <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/margaret-paul-phd\/how-to-love-yourself_b_3639075.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we MUST learn to love ourselves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; why are so many of us in unhappy, unloving relationships with ourselves?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The answer is simple: many of us don\u2019t know how to accept and love ourselves for who we are. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every day we are constantly bombarded with images and advertising that tell us we are not good enough. The media dictates how we behave, it tells us what we should wear and how we should look, and if we don\u2019t meet these impossible standards we\u2019re told that we need to change in order to \u2018better ourselves\u2019! It\u2019s no wonder so many of us carry around such negative feelings!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether it\u2019s directed towards our bodies or our minds, we constantly judge ourselves and, more often than not, these judgements are negative; compounded by negative self-talk and constant comparisons to others we view as \u2018better\u2019 than us.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Don\u2019t Change For Anyone But Yourself<\/h4>\n<p>Now I\u2019m not saying that change is a bad thing, far from it! Those that wish to make better, healthier, choices in their lives and are doing so for themselves and not to please others are,<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In my opinion, already on the path to self-acceptance and ultimately self-love. But, for many people the wish or perceived <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">need<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to \u2018change\u2019 who we are, to be a \u2018better\u2019 or different person, is dictated by a society that demands conformity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have been on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.groupxtraining.com\/The-importance-of-Acceptance-and-Permission\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">my own journey of acceptance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, both of myself and of my work, and I know from experience that the path does not always run smoothly. In trying to conform, in trying to be accepted by others over myself, I side stepped who I was and what I was all about. It took me a while to realise that I do not need acceptance from anyone except myself. Once I realised this, I found myself enjoying teaching so much more and I am now doing more things, trying new things and saying new things!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you feel that your desire to change is not your own, maybe it\u2019s time to take a moment to step back, breathe and allow yourself the time to rediscover and embrace all the things you ARE, rather than focussing on what you are NOT.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Embrace Yoga And Begin A Love Affair With Yourself<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to love ourselves, we must look after ourselves and this requires <\/span><b><i>action<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, after all \u2018<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/tinybuddha.com\/blog\/transform-your-life-by-loving-yourself-in-action\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">love is a verb<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019! Yes, \u2018love\u2019 is a feeling, a noun, but it is also a verb and in order to truly love ourselves we need to take action. Think of all the little things you do for those you love and care about; your partner, your children, your family, your friends\u2026 Now think about what do you do for yourself to express the same feelings?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Practicing self-care, allowing yourself to take some time for you without feeling guilty, is really important. For me, this is where yoga comes in. Yoga teaches us to connect with our feelings, both emotional and physical, on a deeper level. It helps us become more aware of our whole selves and in turn, become more accepting of our current situation, whether we are happy with it or not!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are dozens of variations of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/yoga-class-380-techniques-for-becoming-the-best-you\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">yoga<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, mindfulness, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/yoga-class-238-meditation-2-containment\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meditation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and breathwork that are ideal for helping you on <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/woman.thenest.com\/yoga-teaches-love-yourself-12961.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the path to self-love and acceptance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but ultimately it comes down to <\/span><b><i>you<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. While modern day yoga is generally classed as a group exercise, it\u2019s actually a very individual practice. It\u2019s about training and reconnecting to your body and mind to boost your energy and wellbeing. It\u2019s about harmony, love, acceptance, strength; it\u2019s about <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">your<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> journey. Only you can decide to embrace and accept your own style and, eventually, love yourself for everything you are.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For me, teaching and practicing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.groupxtraining.com\/About-Freestyle-Fitness-Yoga\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Freestyle Fitness Yoga<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has always been a labour of love. I struggled for many years to have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tinaedenpilates.wordpress.com\/2012\/05\/14\/intriguing-article-from-om-magazine-by-jayne-nicholls-creator-of-freestyle-fitness-yoga-2000\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Freestyle Fitness Yoga accepted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when really all I needed to do was accept that this is my style, and embrace it for all its individuality.
