But actually, I promise, it\u2019s not at all dramatic, it\u2019s totally attainable and more than that, you\u2019ll just find it happening, when you least expected it to.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1955\" src=\"http:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/move-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"move\" width=\"680\" height=\"907\" srcset=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/move-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/move-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/move-624x832.jpg 624w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/move.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How has yoga changed my life? Well, in every single way and in every single day, but yoga in studios and gyms isn\u2019t always the best thing for your daily journey into yoga. I do occasionally practice in workshops and see my teacher in class at studios, to get some of the group buzz and get feedback from my teacher on my practice. But, these are the reasons that I personally prefer a home yoga practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5>1. \u00a0I get to bespoke my class<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I go to class,often I often can\u2019t get to the right teacher\u2019s class because they\u2019re teaching at a time I can\u2019t make. So I have to go to another class with another teacher and you have to do as the teacher says (it\u2019d be rude not to!). Whereas I get to choose to practice with what i want to do, with the teacher I\u2019m looking to practice with. \u00a0I\u2019ve been sitting all day? i\u2019ll do an energetic, flow class which features hips. Had a tough day and need nourishment? I\u2019ll do yin or restorative. Only have 5 minutes &#8211; yep, you get the idea\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. \u00a0I can practice outdoors<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Admittedly, I live in the UK and this doesn\u2019t happen every day. But when the weather is anything but rubbish, I take my yoga outside. I can hear the birds, look up at the sky, feel the wind and sun on my skin, and moving outdoors, in nature, is the very best thing in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. \u00a0I can leave my ego aside <\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When in class, often my ego is invited before I am and struts into the room several paces before me. I know, this is <strong>my<\/strong> issue with my ego &#8211; but \u00a0I\u2019m tempted to compare, look around, and do everything un-yogic possible. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I\u2019m on my own, my practice is much safer, I\u2019m not struggling to keep up or tempted to show off (rare now!) &#8211; I just focus on feeling my body moving and breathing, which is a marvellous feeling. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I don\u2019t like show-offs, nor do i have any desire to be the show off. I don\u2019t like the feeling of eyes on me when I\u2019m in my yoga space, which is a sacred space &#8211; there are many studios and classes where this doesn\u2019t happen. But I\u2019ve had some bad experiences&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4. \u00a0I don\u2019t need to worry about my outfit or what I\u00a0look like<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Again, we \u2018shouldn\u2019t\u2019 worry about these things, but nowadays yoga seems so trendy and I don\u2019t like a fashion parade. Or if I do want a fashion parade (again, rare these days!), I like to separate it from my yoga class. I like to wear exactly what I want, have dirty hair and feel amazing, simply because I\u2019m doing yoga, not feel bad because I\u2019m \u2018not good enough\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5. \u00a0I don\u2019t need to get out of my PJ\u2019s<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When i practice first thing in the morning, I don\u2019t want to put on \u2018exercise gear\u2019, i\u2019ll do yoga exactly as I am. And if that\u2019s in my PJ\u2019s hugging a cuppa tea, that\u2019s how i\u2019ll do it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/videos?c=26\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6. \u00a0I can do a truly relaxing yin class<\/span><\/a><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I absolutely love <a href=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/videos?c=26\" target=\"_blank\">yin and restorative yoga<\/a> (which is basically going really deeply into yoga poses because you hold them for ages). I love nothing more than getting into my PJ\u2019s, having a cup of camomile tea to hand, putting on a fire and getting really cozy as I settle into my yoga.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7. \u00a0I can set aside an hour to do yoga and the class takes me an hour! <\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No getting early to get my spot in the studio, no hectic-hour long rush to get there, no gossiping after. For me, the whole of my studio escapade usually takes about 3 hours to do an hour or 75 minute class. Now I can do an hour\u2019s yoga and it takes an hour.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">8. \u00a0I don\u2019t have to mortgage my house to do my yoga<\/span><\/h5>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/yoga-teachers\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9. \u00a0I can practice with my favourite teachers easily and daily! <\/span><\/a><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even when their studio is too far to get to often, when they\u2019re away or on retreat. I don\u2019t have to take chances with my body with teachers I that don\u2019t really work for me.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10. \u00a0I can do exactly what I want to do, and what I need to do without worry<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the class I\u2019m following does a handstand or headstand, I\u2019ll do another pose suitable for me without the faff of the class breaking up and losing its flow. Or if I want to just carry on doing backbends and I\u2019m not ready to finish, I can. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s magic, like that. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And actually, I find that I\u2019m more able to listen to my body\u2019s feedback on class and respond to it, and am a bit more physically and emotionally tuned in to the changes yoga causes in my body, mind and soul.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5>But do go to class too!<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having said that, I do enjoy going out to class. I love adjustments, I love the social and I love just seeing my teacher. I just don\u2019t like to do that every day and I do love and in fact really feel the benefits of doing yoga every day.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5>And let your soul fly<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And I love the feeling of my soul flying because I get to do exactly what I\u00a0need and when I need it!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re all different, life is trial and error. There were times in my life I wouldn\u2019t have been able to practice at home like this. Maybe now is your time, maybe it\u2019s not. Maybe you\u2019ll pick it all up in a few years and it\u2019ll feel completely different. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Life is like that, and the great thing is &#8211; nothing ever stays the same. Just keep trying different things, and do what works for you.
