Fitting yoga in with a small one is a challenge in itself. Here, Kate Walker shares her experience and shares some wise words which may resonate with new mums&#8230;<\/h3>\n<h3><a style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/pexels-photo-265987.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4843\" src=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/pexels-photo-265987.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"454\" srcset=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/pexels-photo-265987.jpg 940w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/pexels-photo-265987-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/pexels-photo-265987-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/pexels-photo-265987-624x416.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>I had my first child last year, in 2016.\u00a0 He ended up being born by emergency caesarean and the recovery was slow and hard &#8211; I had never had surgery before, let alone serious abdominal surgery, and didn\u2019t realise how impatient I am until then!<\/p>\n<h3>Coming back to yoga was hard for my body but harder for my ego.<\/h3>\n<p>I\u2019ve never been a naturally flexible or strong person.\u00a0 Nothing in the physical practice of yoga came easily to my body.\u00a0 But this was a whole new world, and I had no choice but to accept where I was and start from there.<\/p>\n<h3>Finding time to practice and fitting yoga in was hard with a new baby, as when I had a few minutes to myself I just wanted to sleep!<\/h3>\n<p>However, I committed to 15\/20 minutes a day (or \u2018most days\u2019!) and felt a difference very quickly.\u00a0 Not only in my body &#8211; I felt less stiff, less back, neck and shoulder pain and tightness &#8211; but also in my mind.<\/p>\n<h3>I was kinder to my husband and my friends.\u00a0 I became more able to be present with my son, less anxious and more able to enjoy the moments.\u00a0 Yoga is magical like that.<\/h3>\n<p>So notice if you think you have to do a 90 minute class or it\u2019s not worth it.\u00a0 Notice if you think you have to do hard impressive-looking poses or you\u2019re not progressing.\u00a0 Notice if you\u2019re impatient, unkind and even violent to yourself in your yoga.\u00a0 The first step is noticing.<\/p>\n<p>For me, once I had noticed what was happening within myself, it was just a choice &#8211; a choice to start along the stepping stones to feel better, in body, mind and heart.\u00a0 Some days that was just about trying to re-find some breath, some days that was a few easy poses while I grunted and groaned.\u00a0 And some days I would surprise myself and be able to do a bit more.<\/p>\n<p>I have changed my intention behind practicing &#8211; it\u2019s time to come home, to go within while i spend so much time caring for my baby boy the rest of the day.
