My closest gym is 11 miles, or a 20-minute drive, away and the nearest yoga studio means a 40-minute drive each way minimum. An hour class turns into an almost three hour adventure &#8211; fun once a week, but not productive daily when you\u2019re trying to set up a new business!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In London, I\u2019d dabbled with home practice; as a (new) yoga teacher I\u2019d plan my classes at home and run through them but struggled to motivate myself to do more than that. \u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I looked to senior teachers for inspiration and motivation and took for granted that there were plenty of great yoga studios within walking or cycling distance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the beginning of my move, I was struggling to get my bum on the mat (yep I\u2019m a yoga teacher who struggles with motivation too!) but I\u2019ve recently discovered how much there is to gain from a home yoga practice and how fun it can be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-5067\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" src=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Side-Stretch-Childs-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"383\" srcset=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Side-Stretch-Childs-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Side-Stretch-Childs-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Side-Stretch-Childs-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Side-Stretch-Childs-624x351.jpg 624w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Side-Stretch-Childs.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are my top 4 tips for how you can embrace and enjoy a home yoga practice:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3><b> Get excited about your home yoga practice!<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of my favourite things to do is sit down on a Sunday and browse through the Movement for Modern Life library. I look through all of the classes and think about which ones interest me and which classes I\u2019d like to take! I look at any new additions and then I \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Half-Side-Plank.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-5066\" src=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Half-Side-Plank-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"383\" srcset=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Half-Side-Plank-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Half-Side-Plank-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Half-Side-Plank-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Half-Side-Plank-624x351.jpg 624w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Laurie-Half-Side-Plank.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><b> Plan your home yoga practice into your life.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s really easy to think about doing a home yoga practice, and to talk about a home yoga practice, and then to not actually do the home yoga practice \u2026 (I\u2019m guessing it\u2019s not just me!) On Sunday, or whatever day you choose, look at your diary for the upcoming week and see where you can fit your yoga practice in. <\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> Get your bum on the yoga mat!<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So we\u2019re excited about our yoga practice, we\u2019ve planned our yoga practice into our busy lives \u2013 but then the time comes and we think oh I\u2019ll just check Facebook one more time, or clean the bathroom, or do some of the kids washing \u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Real emergencies aside, don\u2019t let yourself negotiate away from doing the yoga class you\u2019ve planned. Our minds are very good at talking ourselves out of things but notice when your mind starts to do it and get yourself on your yoga mat anyway. Load up the Movement for Modern Life class you\u2019ve planned, put your phone away.
