I\u2019m putting my rather tip-top immune system down to a few things.<\/p>\n<h5>1. \u00a0My Yoga Practice<\/h5>\n<p>I practice yoga everyday. I sometimes only practice for 10 minutes a day, when life is really busy, but usually it\u2019s half an hour. And I am really lucky that I&#8217;m only taught by the very most senior teachers &#8211; those who really have dedicated their lives to their practice and their teachings. I\u2019m a vegetarian and eat vegetables at every meal, but the gut does function better when it has tons of greens to process and lots of lovely fibre, and that means that I sleep better. Which (see below!) means that my body gets a chance to replenish properly.<\/p>\n<p>So every morning I start the day with an <strong>organic kale or spinach smoothie.<\/strong> Other ingredients added to this depend on how I\u2019m feeling, or the time of year. At this time of year, I\u2019m making my green smoothie really chunkie. I might add:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>flax seeds<\/li>\n<li>chia seeds<\/li>\n<li>goji berries<\/li>\n<li>seeds<\/li>\n<li>soaked almonds<\/li>\n<li>ginger<\/li>\n<li>banana for yumminess<\/li>\n<li>some other fruit for extra antioxidants and yum factor<\/li>\n<li>almond milk to whizz it all together<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once I start the day on a green smoothie, I know that even if I\u2019m super busy and don\u2019t have much time for eating perfectly, I\u2019ve given my body a fighting chance for fighting lurgies.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-5557\" src=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SHOGUN_S002_S002_T040_01-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"winter immunity\" width=\"680\" height=\"383\" srcset=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SHOGUN_S002_S002_T040_01-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SHOGUN_S002_S002_T040_01-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SHOGUN_S002_S002_T040_01-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SHOGUN_S002_S002_T040_01-624x351.jpg 624w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/SHOGUN_S002_S002_T040_01.jpg 1885w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I also <strong>juice<\/strong> a couple of times a week &#8211; mostly <strong>carrots with added ginger, apple, orange and even sometimes some turmeric.<\/strong>\u00a0When we juice, we don\u2019t get the added benefit to our system of the fibre that we so badly need &#8211; but, I feel that when I drink organic juice, I get a direct hit of goodness to my cells, and can almost feel the zing of vitamins immediately. A perfect pick-me up and hit of goodness during the winter months!<\/p>\n<h5>3. \u00a0Sleep, Sleep and Sweet dreams<\/h5>\n<p>Really good quality, <strong>deep sleep is essential for your body to rest, repair and recuperate properly<\/strong>. Your body repairs itself and fights disease when it is in \u2018rest\u2019 mode, and sleep is absolutely essential to that. If you haven\u2019t got yourself a good sleep routine, now is the time.<\/p>\n<p>You absolutely must prioritise your sleeping patterns if you want to be healthy, fit, productive and focused. Studies have shown that you will also be <strong>happier<\/strong>, less likely to be depressed, you will make <strong>better decisions<\/strong> and your <strong>co-workers will enjoy working with you more<\/strong> if you sleep better.<\/p>\n<p>Now is the time to get your sleep routine sorted and ensure that you get a good eight hours or so a night. It works beautifully for me, to ensure good digestive health (which by the way is crucial for ensuring good sleep), and is fabulous for ensuring our immune system is working tickety-boo and just how it should. Currently, for the winter-time, I\u2019m giving myself this super-boost of <strong>Apple Cider Vinegar with turmeric, ginger and chilli.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-5559\" src=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/apple-cider-vinegar-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"907\" srcset=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/apple-cider-vinegar-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/apple-cider-vinegar-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/apple-cider-vinegar-624x832.jpg 624w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/apple-cider-vinegar.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5>5. \u00a0Golden Paste Through the Winter<\/h5>\n<p>In winter months especially, it\u2019s so tempting to want to \u2018treat\u2019 ourselves with sweets, milk products and hot chocolate. But in my experience, these things may give you a temporary feel good factor, but really won\u2019t help your immune system or your health. When the body is run down, milk products can produce excess mucous. It\u2019s best to avoid too much dairy.<\/p>\n<p>I have been using <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/best-cold-remedies\/\">Golden Paste<\/a>,<\/strong> and I have this as a delicious morning drink with Almond Milk, and it\u2019s utterly wonderful, and I do believe gives some wonderful health-giving properties<\/p>\n<h5>6. \u00a0Sniff, not sniffles!<\/h5>\n<p>Recently I have been working with <strong>essential oils<\/strong> and I am becoming really quite convinced that they are helpful in keeping me healthy over the winter season. The oils I have been using are made my DoTerra, because the quality is excellent, and when using any essential oils it is absolutely vital to know that they are therapeutic quality and not made using any harmful chemicals or by harming the environment in harmful procedures of extractions.<\/p>\n<p>The oils that are really helpful for when you\u2019re feeling run down, or if you\u2019re surrounded by others with colds are called <strong>On Guard, made by DoTerra<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m also wiping down counters and keeping the house germ-free using <strong>a few drops of tea-tree oil in warm water sprayed on surfaces.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve also been using a wonderful-smelling combination of oils called She is an amazing woman with a small UK-company who only uses the very best quality oils. I put a dab of Altitude Oil below my nose when I travel on tubes or trains, and it just seems to magically say to germs \u2018begone\u2019 and it certainly keeps me smelling great!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-5560\" src=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/oil-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"907\" srcset=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/oil-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/oil-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/oil-624x832.jpg 624w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/oil.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5>I really hope that these tips help you in your battle against colds this winter.
