The good news is that this is OK and it is totally normal!\u00a0 So try to be kind(er) to yourself and know that we all go through these emotions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/yoga-for-stress-and-anxiety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more about yoga for stress and anxiety in this complete guide<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h5>Overwhelm is part of normal life<\/h5>\n<p>I know first-hand how challenging it can be to motivate yourself to practice, especially during cloudy times.\u00a0 Maybe you\u2019re feeling under-the-weather due to seasonal changes or perhaps you\u2019re experiencing a change with a relationship or financial circumstances. Or maybe you\u2019ve recently experienced a loss of a loved one or perhaps the pressures of everyday life are just leading you to a place of overwhelm and self-doubt.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6679\" src=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_20180614_153654.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"769\" height=\"577\" srcset=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_20180614_153654.jpg 769w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_20180614_153654-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_20180614_153654-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_20180614_153654-624x468.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 769px) 100vw, 769px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5>Yoga to keep grounded and promote calm<\/h5>\n<p>Whatever the reason you\u2019re feel<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">ing stressed, thankfully you can turn to your yoga practice to help keep you calm, focused &amp; grounded during this uneasy time.\u00a0 I\u2019d love to share some of the tips and ideas that have truly helped keep me in one piece when I\u2019m stressed and nearing moments of totally freaking out (yes, it happens!).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Whether you\u2019re going through BIG changes in life or just feeling a bit overwhelmed with the day-to-day these tips can help you feel stronger, brighter and happier.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6681\" src=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/thaxtedyoga.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/thaxtedyoga.jpg 960w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/thaxtedyoga-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/thaxtedyoga-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/thaxtedyoga-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/thaxtedyoga-624x624.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5>6 Tips for Finding Peace During Times of Stress:<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>First, establish what it is you want to achieve or what it is you are aiming for, and why<\/strong>\u00a0What do YOU want to improve?\u00a0 The WHY is just as important as the WHAT \u2013 so don\u2019t leave this bit out, as it gives motivation to your desire.\u00a0 Visualise yourself having already achieved this and living in the present.\u00a0 Setting your sights and your focus on this very basic yet powerful technique enables you to shift your mindset to a positive position and helps reduce the negative chatter and \u201cwhat -ifs\u201d that often lead to self-doubt.\u00a0 This visualisation is also commonly referred to as Manifesting Intentions or the Law of Attraction.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Create a routine that helps encourage your practice<\/strong>, ideally first thing in the morning before the busy-ness of the day has begun. For me, this includes waking early before the rest of the house stirs, pouring a cup of tea or hot water with lemon, putting on the essential oil diffuser or lighting a candle and rolling out my mat.\u00a0 The sequence of these events is a precursor to help mentally prepare for my morning practice \u2013 whether it\u2019s a 15 minute practice or a 90 minute practice, it all starts in the same way.\u00a0 And just doing something is better than doing nothing, so if you just roll out your mat and go straight to savasansa then that\u2019s great!<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/yoga-classes\/breathing-chanting-locks-gestures\">Just breathe<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Even when you feel you don\u2019t have time, you do \u2013 it only takes a few moments to hit your re-set button &amp; feel calmer and more in control of your emotions.\u00a0 Begin the practice with a pranayama, such as Alternate Nostril Breathing, and allow yourself to meditate within this breathing practice.\u00a0 This technique helps balance the body and the mind and creates a sense of stability and wellness. Or, just sitting and focusing on slow, steady, mindful inhales and exhales does the trick too.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Focus on your connection to your body &amp; the earth, often referred to as grounding.\u00a0<\/strong>Most of the time we are so busy that we often spend too much time in our heads worrying, analysing and feeling scattered that we often completely forget about what is happening with our bodies and how we feel physically. Shifting your attention to your physical body and away from the chatter of your mind helps foster mindfulness and reduces the production of cortisol, the stress hormone.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Practice with intention &amp; focus\u00a0<\/strong>not just on the mat or on the asana, but on what you have established in point 1 above.To really help during times of stress, choose yoga poses that are grounding, such as standing postures and balancing postures.\u00a0 Movement in your body through yoga is a great way to release feel-good endorphins to help remedy feelings of stress and overwhelm.\u00a0 Movement for Modern Life offer a series of videos on <a href=\"https:\/\/movementformodernlife.com\/yoga-classes\/move-into-calm\">grounding, stress-relieving practices<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>SMILE!<\/strong> Even if it\u2019s the last thing you feel like doing. Trust me.
