A staggering 8 out of 10 people will suffer from back pain at some point in their lives! Many of us live with pain that ranges from niggles from time to time to chronic ad debilitating pain. And the lucky ones who don’t struggle with back pain may well benefit from finding out how to keep back pain at bay!

Are you suffering from back pain?

Has your doctor suggested you start yoga?

Or are you a teacher who’d like to learn more about how to support those working with lower back pain?

If so, join Catherine Annis for this brand new workshop exploring how we can practice yoga for back pain.

This workshop is for you if:

  • You want to learn more about anatomy and how to make lasting improvements to posture and movement, both on the yoga mat and in everyday life.
  • You are a yoga teacher who wants to be able to serve students who struggle with back pain better.
  • You have neck and shoulder discomfort, lower back pain, sciatica, sacroiliac instability, have had surgeries which affect your back or have general back pain.
  • For all levels of yoga / movement experience.

Join us to explore how to:

• Gently mobilise the joints thereby promoting the natural healing mechanism of the body.
• Develop strength, coordination and stability to help us move with confidence.
• Challenge our beliefs about pain, weakness and damage.
• Reassess our understanding of our bodies as vulnerable and discover the innate resilience of our structure.
• Reconnect and restore flexibility and joy in movement.

Anyone suffering from back pain or severe or acute disc injury is encouraged to seek the help of a qualified physiotherapist or osteopath before joining a yoga workshop.

Catherine Annis is well known for her imaginative and practical approach to yoga. In 2017 she created the Intelligent Yoga Teacher Training Course (IYTT), a 12 month, anatomically focused teacher training course with world-leading teacher Gary Carter.

Originally a professional dancer, she discovered yoga as a teenager, and has been  practicing since the mid 1970s.  Having studied various styles of yoga including Sivananda, Iyengar, Astanga and various forms of Hatha yoga, she eventually gravitated to the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli.

Catherine’s yoga practice and  teaching focuses on strategies for downregulating the nervous system, working with breath and subtle somatic work to soothe the mind and create more physical ease for those working with persistent pain, stress and anxiety.  She holds a Masters degree in ballet studies, and is a qualified Thai massage  practitioner, and it is this interest in the body which informs and inspires her teaching.

The workshop will take place on Zoom and you will receive the link the day before the workshop. If you haven’t received the link please get in touch at least 2 hours before the start of the class.

Can’t make it live?

We will be offering a on-demand playback of the workshop for 14 days afterwards, so you don’t have to miss out! The recording link will be sent out on Monday 14th April.

Cost

We know that some of you are facing some real cost-dilemmas and we know that sometimes our wellbeing practices are the first to suffer when life gets hard.

We want you to know that we are there for you.

Therefore, our workshops and live events are offered on a ‘Pay As You Can’ basis.

There is a suggested price, which we ask you to pay, if you have the means. The suggested price is the ‘true cost’ of running the workshop, and this is £35.

If finances might get in the way of you joining, you can pay what you can afford, and therefore you are still able to join. This is the Buddhist system of Dana. The minimum that we can accept is £15, because like you, we are also struggling at these times.

Those of you do have the means, please do feel free to pay more than the suggested price. We want so much to continue to support you for years to come with online workshops and community gatherings. However, we can only do that if we continue to have your support through tougher times.

Please do get in touch if you have any queries whatsoever about the workshop, about payment, or any concerns at all. We really love to hear from you.
