Beginners Yoga › Norman Blair
We know that yoga can seem intimidating and can seem like it’s a million miles away from what is attainable, achievable or even fun.
We also firmly believe that it really doesn’t matter how long your hamstrings are or whether you can touch your knees or toes or if you’re already in the cirque de soleil. Really that’s not what yoga is about. So what is yoga about?
To Movement for Modern Life, yoga is simply a tool. It is a tool which is guaranteed to make you feel better. Guaranteed. Starting with a little stretch and a little strength, you will find you feel a lot better in your body, and then you may start to breathe. You may start to feel some space in your head. In your life. You may start to feel that things feel possible that you never even knew were. But don’t take our word for it. Just get moving. Forwards ever, backwards never. Heart Opening Yin
In yin yoga we hold poses for minutes. The poses in this heart-opening Yin Yoga class are focused on the heart meridian, and the poses will help you to open your shoulders and heart to all that life has to offer. Quietly energising, because most of the poses are back-bends, you may not want to do this class straight before sleep. A perfect antidote for after a long day’s work with the gentle energising and back and shoulder opening, this class will help you to settle into the evening. You may need two bricks or blocks, a bolster and a sandbag, but improvisation with cushions and books is also encouraged!

Ashtanga Yoga: Standing and Stabilising Poses
A mostly standing Ashtanga yoga class suitable for those newer to the Ashtanga practice. This sequence will get you stronger and more grounded as you stabilise. Starting with variations on sun salutations and then going through some of the Ashtanga standing poses in the primary series, the focus in this class is to make the ashtanga practice appropriate for you and with an emphasis on the practice energising your body in a way that is supportive and nourishing. You may need two bricks.
Peace and Breath
A very quiet and gentle yoga class. All yoga poses are supine and held for a period, where the body is calmed and quieted and attention is turned inward. Then Norman leads a breath practice at sitting. You may need a cushion or block for sitting still. Great for times where you are looking to reduce stress/anxiety and perfect for before bed when you are looking to quiet the mind and gently stretch the body.
Yin & Breath: 1
Yin Yoga for Freedom
A quiet, restful yin yoga class where each pose is held for long enough to truly deepen into your yoga. As we deepen into our stretches, we become closer to our bodies, to who we are. We are able to start to live life from the authentic place of where we are, not where we were or where we want to be. Fantastic life-skills in the form of yoga. You will need cushions or a bolster and a blanket and prepare to deepen your yoga practice
