Find calm through your breath. Our breath is a monitor of our emotional state. Learn how to use this breathwork pattern to trick the body into thinking we are calm and relaxed even when we aren't! A fabulous technique to use for all stressful situations.
Alignment Aspects - Micro Flow To Discover Balance
This class is mostly from a simple standing position where you learn how to flex, fold and balance with our eyes closed in an attempt to connect our full awareness to our bodies and understand how we can create and maintain balance in all our poses. Working with simple positions in distribution of weight helps to understand the more complex poses. Watch in combination with Dan's Discussion Of The Alignment Aspects Of Yoga.
Discussion of Alignment Aspects of Yoga
Once we understand how the body finds balance and creates stability in postures, everything becomes much clearer and we can approach asana more insightfully, even if we have never practised a posture before. In this video we look at what Dan calls direct and indirect alignment, what they are and how to find them yourself. Follow up with Dan's Movement Practice Micro Flow To Discover Balance.
Physical Aspects: Moving Mindfully To Explore Your Body
An exporation of your hands, wrists, shoulders, this flow is great for those of us who spend a lot of time at computers, have a strong asana practice or any other activity that builds repetitive strain. Working on all fours this flow moves on from the exploration of our bodies limits and begins to prepare the physical self for the demands of more challenging postures. Preparing the core and basic all round flexibility, this class works well as a stand alone sequence for the mornings or as a lovely warm up for stronger classes. Watch in combination with Dan's Discussion Of The Physical Aspects Of Yoga.
Discussion of the Physical Aspects of Yoga
A discussion and exploration into the alignment and the balance issues in your own body - It is no use assuming that your body is the same every day, or over longer periods of time as this simply isn't true. Every single one of us has a complicated balance of physical and flexibility within our bodies. If we don't understand where our individual strengths and weaknesses lie and how these oppose each other, we are setting ourselves up for a lot of hard work in almost any posture. Once we grasp how these work, we can move more fluidly and freely through practice with less chance of injury. Follow up with Dan's Movement Practice Moving Mindfully To Explore Your Body.
Mental Aspects - Exploring Mental Strength and Flexibility
In this session of mindful movement explore the parameters and limitations of our own body with very gentle movements in a seated position with the eyes closed. More than anything else it is a misunderstanding of our mind and how it functions that causes us difficulties during asana practice. In this very gentle seated first practice we will explore some of the mind games that create resistance and how we might work through them. Watch in combination with Dan's Discussion Of The Mental Aspects Of Yoga.
