Let the Breath Be Your Guide to Peace
A Live Online Workshop Series with Dan Peppiatt
16th November – 7th December 2021
The run up to Christmas can be a very stressful time for many. To bring some much needed peace and calm, why not join our friendly and relaxed group to explore why the way we breathe is so fundamental to our mental state and how we can improve both our mental and physical wellbeing by making a few small adjustments.
We will be learning about the effect our breath has on our nervous system and will learn breath techniques. There’ll be plenty of opportunities to ask Dan questions and all participants get accountability and support from each other in our closed facebook group.
The one hour sessions will run every Tuesday at 7pm (GMT) for four weeks from 16th November 2021.
The Schedule
Week 1: Finding Freedom in the Breath
16 November
What are the poor breathing habits that we get into and why does that happen? In this session we will look at accessing the muscles of respiration and keeping them free and supple, including accessing the intercostals to free the ribcage and accessing the diaphragm to free the belly. We’ll also explore opening the sinuses and keeping them open, and experiment the first simple, relaxing breath practice – breath observation and knowing the breath.
Week 2: The Functional Breath
23 November
What is functional breath and why don’t we need to add in any complicated breathing ‘techniques’ to improve it? In this session, Dan will debunk the deep breathing myth and why you can’t simply ‘breathe in’ more oxygen. We’ll also explore the science behind why and how our breath is the quickest way to enter relaxation, and how to return to breathing efficiently and locking this into our daily behaviour. The next breath practices we’ll experiment with are egg breath and box breath, and determining which works best for you.
Week 3: Breath and the Mind
30 November
The breath is a monitor of our mental state. Learn about adjusting our mental state using the breath. Dan will share simple techniques to monitor the breath and use them to observe future improvement, and we’ll explore slowing and smoothing the breath in this week’s practice.
Week 4: Breath for Stress
7 December
In our final session, we’ll discover stress-proofing techniques using the breath and how to improve your physical stamina and activity levels with the breath. The final breath practices are perfect breath and an emergency practice for moments of stress and anxiety.
All sessions will take place live on Zoom and you can access the recording for 7 days after. Or, you can purchase the on-demand bundle which gives you access to the live sessions and lifetime access to the recordings.
Dan believes that you can’t teach yoga or meditation; you can only facilitate other peoples’ journey to find a perfectly organic way of practicing for them, something that he calls ‘Yoga Like Water’. He is just as likely to be found experimenting with these concepts free-diving; surfing; on a slack-line or rock face as in yoga. You may wish to check out Dan’s Ten Day Breath Challenge here.
