Live Online Yoga and Five Elements Workshop

Using The Five Elements To Inspire, Heal and Transform

Sunday 24th April 2022 | 9am – 11am (GMT)

In this yoga workshop with one of our most popular teachers, Zephyr Wildman, we will explore how the five basic Elements of nature can be used in our yoga to create a deeper practice. Zephyr’s classes are well known for combining deep Vinyasa with the philosophy of yoga. Her Transformation Course is one of the most popular challenges on the site, with deep life lessons contained in adventurous Vinyasa.

During this practice, the elements Earth, Water, Fire, Wind and Space are used to understand and discover more of our inner and outer ecosystem.

The workshop will include individual yoga sequences (Kramas) that are inspired by each of the Elements: Earth – Grounding; Water – Fluidity; Fire – Transformation; Wind – Inspiring; Space – Stilling. This will be layered with pranayama kriyas, mudras, and mantras to make this workshop an integrative experience.

Yogis understood and utilised the laws of nature to attain greater health, power, knowledge, wisdom and sustained contentment in themselves by using practices effectively to heal, inspire and transform – cultivating equanimity in the body-mind connection.

The elements are:

Earth  | Solid | This relates to form, structure, physical integrity, bones, muscles and tissues.

Water  | Liquid | The fluidity that sustains life, nourishes and moves our joints; blood and fluid that circulates within.

Fire  | Heat | Temperature, metabolism, energetic drive and confidence to fulfil purpose.

Wind  | Gas | Direction of movement of the breath, Prana (life force), and channels of communication within that carry the creative expression of life.

Space  | Intergalactic material that suspends or contains it all. We feel space which provides a platform for all the other elements within ourselves. We sense this in our mouth, hollow organs and bone, but also the space between the breath, cells, atoms, even the space between our thoughts.

The use of these elements and Prana is the main link to the sister science of yoga called Ayurveda.

Both yoga and Ayurveda use Prana (vital energy) to sustain balance with the elements and to effectively heal ourselves. Yogis used the heat of Prana to inspire a balance, transform imbalances and create a natural harmony amongst all the others elements.

In this yoga workshop, we will focus on an Element drawing on its characteristics, corresponding Chakra, Mantra, Hasta Mudra and sense organ associated with the Element, in the hope you too will find a harmony and equanimity in body, energy and mind.
