Lesson 1: Change Your Health By Changing What You Eat
If you’re like me, you’ve probably got an exciting vision for your life. So whether you want to raise a healthy family, get a promotion at work, retire and travel the world…you’ve got dreams. To get those dreams, you want good health. You want to feel strong. You want to wake up with enough energy to jump out of bed and be excited about the day.
Fatigue, pain and inflammation, digestive issues and other chronic health issues, totally deflate our potential and hold us back from the life we were meant to live.
We imagine what a better life could look like.
We imagine feeling satisfied and energetic after a meal, instead of drained and bloated. We imagine going to bed without tummy aches, feeling comfortable in our clothes, sleeping through the night and waking up rested.
But we have no idea how to get there.
I’m here to share easy ways to transform your life and to get the energy you need to achieve your dreams. I’ve developed The Plant Powered Approach to Total Wellness. It will motivate you to take a few simple steps towards the healthy life that is sitting there, waiting for you.
It’s not about getting more energy. It’s about uncovering the energy and wellbeing that is already inside you!
And here’s the best part; whether we’re talking about energy, immunity or healing from a chronic illness, the symptoms may be different but the underlying causes are often the same.
Basically, your body is designed to function at its best. It’s a beautiful system that totally understands how to thrive. But to thrive we’ve got to stop doing the things that are zapping our energy, hammering our immune system and putting us at risk of chronic disease.
Let’s start by doing a little mental housekeeping and addressing one of the biggest hang-ups that hold us back. I call it the ‘it’s easy for you to say’ negative mantra. And it goes like this; ‘it’s easy for you to say, you’re a nutritionist, it must be easy for you, you know it all. I’ve tried getting healthy and failed. I don’t want to let myself down yet again. So why even bother.’
Do you have negative mantras like that?
I totally get it but don’t believe your thoughts. The more we fill our heads with disempowering beliefs, the more we become those beliefs. And while changing your habits isn’t easy (I know I’ve been there), I’m going to make it easier for you.

Most people say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I actually believe every meal counts, but that said, breakfast plays an important role in managing your health, metabolism and curbing cravings.
But I don’t want you to just eat anything. I want you to eat a whole food plant based breakfast.
“Whole food plant based” what the heck is that, I hear you cry! In a nutshell these are recipes that contain no meat, dairy or processed ingredients.
Why? We’ll get to that in the next lesson.
For now stick to these recipes because although commercially produced cereals appear to be ‘plant based’ these are really just highly processed, nutrient deficient foods.
Why start with breakfast?
Breakfast is a great place to start because you are working with your body’s natural cycles and will notice the difference pretty quickly.
During the hours of 4am to 12 noon your body is going through its elimination cycle. This process is hampered by eating difficult to digest processed or animal foods, which means your body never gets to complete its elimination phase! That has massive implications for your overall energy levels and total wellbeing.
Keep it simple, stick to the same option most days and at the weekend try something new.
At this point you may be wondering ‘where am I going to get the motivation to do another new thing’? Let me tell you, you only need a little flame to get the fire started. Once the fire’s burning guess what happens? You create new habits, and these habits release more of your inner energy and that will keep you fuelled.
I’ll wrap up this lesson by introducing you to the most important thing I have learnt over the years……prevention is the best cure! Because although many diseases have their origins in genetics, they often stem from lifestyle choices. With that in mind here are my 5 Pillars of Total Wellness;

- How you renew
These pillars are the backbone of total wellbeing and have helped me shift from surviving to thriving.
