Demystify the Psoas: Online Workshop with Catherine Annis

Online Workshop with Catherine Annis – Learn how the Psoas supports your posture and health!

Saturday 10th February | 9-11am (GMT)

Join Catherine Annis in this workshop where she will ‘demystify’ the mysterious Psoas! Learn how important the Psoas muscles are in supporting your posture and overall health!

Who this workshop is for:

  • Yoga students who are interested in learning more about their body!
  • Anyone who practices yoga
  • Yoga teachers wanting to deepen their understanding of the Psoas muscles
  • If you have back pain or tension and want ways to release and soothe the body
  • If you want to let go on emotional or physical tensions

Why do you want to ‘demystify the psoas’?!

The psoas muscles are the deepest muscles in our body.  They are the link between our spine, diaphragm and legs and act as messengers between our inner selves and the outer world.  They are involved in almost every movement we make – walking, running and sitting and provide important pathways for neural messages.

Whilst they are extraordinarily sensitive and responsive, we often find it difficult to consciously feel them, or even know where they are within our bodies.   When we’re tired, over-worked or emotional, they may become unbalanced and tense, potentially causing a wide range of symptoms including lower back pain, stress, postural imbalances and contributing to exhaustion and poor digestion.

What to expect:

  • To understand more about these emotional muscles
  • Improve your understanding of the structure and role of the psoas in the body
  • Discover the connection between the psoas and the breath
  • Learn why you should never stretch your psoas and why it doesn’t need strengthening
  • Find out how to soothe and release your psoas safely
  • Let go of long held tensions which may help relieve lower back pain and improve your sense of well-being.

Catherine Annis is well known for her imaginative and practical approach to yoga. In 2017 she created the Intelligent Yoga Teacher Training Course (iytt), a 12 month, anatomically focused teacher training course with world-leading teacher Gary Carter.

Originally a professional dancer, she discovered yoga as a teenager, and has been  practicing since the mid 1970s.  Having studied various styles of yoga including Sivananda, Iyengar, Astanga and various forms of Hatha yoga, she eventually gravitated to the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli.

Catherine’s yoga practice and  teaching focuses on strategies for downregulating the nervous system, working with breath and subtle somatic work to soothe the mind and create more physical ease for those working with persistent pain, stress and anxiety.  She holds a Masters degree in ballet studies, and is a qualified Thai massage  practitioner, and it is this interest in the body which informs and inspires her teaching.

The workshop will take place on Zoom and you will receive the link the day before the workshop. If you haven’t received the link please get in touch at least 2 hours before the start of the class.

Can’t make it live?

We will be offering a on-demand playback of the workshop for 14 days afterwards, so you don’t have to miss out!

Cost

We know that some of you are facing some real cost-dilemmas and we know that sometimes our wellbeing practices are the first to suffer when life gets hard.

We want you to know that we are there for you.

Therefore, our workshops and live events are offered on a ‘Pay As You Can’ basis.

There is a suggested price, which we ask you to pay, if you have the means. The suggested price is the ‘true cost’ of running the workshop, and this is £35.

If finances might get in the way of you joining, you can pay what you can afford, and therefore you are still able to join. This is the Buddhist system of Dana. The minimum that we can accept is £10, because like you, we are also struggling at these times.

Those of you do have the means, please do feel free to pay more than the suggested price. We want so much to continue to support you for years to come with online workshops and community gatherings. However, we can only do that if we continue to have your support through tougher times.

Please do get in touch if you have any queries whatsoever about the workshop, about payment, or any concerns at all. We really love to hear from you.
