The period around Christmas can be so beautiful, but is so tough for so many of us in so many ways. With demands on our health with the excesses, demands on our time with making all the magic of Christmas happen for our nearest and dearest, and of course demands on our wallets, Christmas can be overwhelming.
It’s also the time of year that many of us feel that we’re not good enough, in so many ways – maybe we’re not feeling wealthy enough to treat everyone, or happy enough, or that we have the time for our friends. Or maybe we’re just starting to feel a little grouchy from eating and drinking too much.
It’s a great time of year to practice strategies for how to manage ourselves through sometimes, less mindful times. Amongst all the busyness, the filled diaries and when we eat and drink too much, our mind can be dulled, and our senses easily overwhelmed.
This is a great time of year to practice gratitude, practice mindfulness, and whatever you do, make sure you stick to your daily yoga practice. And if you think that you have no time for these things at this time of year, then you need to do double the time you spend in your practice!! When we become more mindful, more conscious, when we breathe deeply, we sleep better, our bodies are able to replenish, and we’re more likely to make good, healthy decisions, like drinking a green smoothie every day, that’ll lead to a happier you, a you more able to give to others over the Christmas period.
What Christmas shows me is that the word Christmas can be replaced by any challenge that we have in life. Whenever we’re facing a challenge, there are always feeling of inadequacy, of not having enough or being enough. These are things we all share with each other. What Christmas shows me is that any thoughts, anxiety or feelings are not about Christmas, but about what happens when any challenging situation approaches.
My thoughts about Christmas were shared in full on the We Are Thought website.
And if, like me, you sometimes lack moderation at this time of year – perhaps Lucy’s Hangover Class might come in handy? And if your immune system is struggling, you may want to check out Mimi’s Winter Immune Boost classes.
