Bring in the Sunshine: Summer Solstice Day Retreat

Join team Movement for Modern Life for a day of calling in the sun and celebrating all that is light in our lives!

Join Kat and Team MFML on Saturday 20th June 2020 at Wild Wolf’s Yoga in Bristol

With our Spring Equinox Retreat with Andrea Kwiatkowski in Cambridge swelling out so swiftly, we’re continuing our ‘Seasons Series’ with a day retreat in the south west.

One of our favourite yoga creatives, Dan Peppiatt, will be leading a morning and afternoon practice, and we’ll be outside for lunch with an inspiring discussion about how we can take our practice into our daily life.

Space will be limited to only 20 people, so book your space swiftly – this one is sure to sell out!

The Day

Solstice means ‘Sun Standing Still’ and taking this as our guide, we will take a journey through physical movement, breath and mind as we explore internal quiet and stillness.

Arrive from 10am for some herbal tea, gentle introductions and settling in.

10.30am – 1pm: Enquiring Flow

This will be a 2.5 hour yoga workshop which will include a flow, pranayama and meditation. In this morning session with Dan, we align our intention with the summer solstice, a period of high energy and traditionally a time to absorb the energy of the year’s longest day. Dan will guide you through an ‘Enquiring Flow’ – the postures will be very familiar, accessible to all and the energy will be raised, but the focus remains on mental stillness and a sense of taking control of our own practice. By bringing full awareness to our bodies we begin to enquire what we do with them as a result of the choices that we each take during the course of our asana practice.

1pm – 2pm: Lunch

Over lunch, we will enjoy a talk with Kat Farrants, Founder of MFML and Dan. It will be a time to digest some ideas about how we can take our yoga practice off the mat, along with our food! If the sun is shining on us, we can go outside in a gorgeous private terrace area to get some air and enjoy the fresh air.

2.30pm – 4.30pm: Gentle Flow, Yoga Nidra & Meditation

In the afternoon, we will start to wind down the day’s retreat with a restorative session of self-compassion and reflection. Through the exploration of some gentle postures and a long yoga nidra, we allow the physical body to merge with the breath and then the mind, so that we can round off the day with a feeling of completeness.

About Dan

Dan believes that you can’t teach yoga, you can only facilitate other peoples’ journey to find a perfectly organic way of practicing for them. He is just as likely to be found experimenting with these concepts free-diving; surfing; on a slack-line or rock face as in the many studios that he runs sessions in around the country. With adventures at medical school; as a science teacher; pyrotechnic installation artist; renovating an ancient farmhouse in France; raising and home educating his two daughters on a canal boat just to name a few, he has certainly ignored any imaginary ‘rules’ that society might have. He has always tried to ‘live his yoga’, exploring the mental boundaries of the debilitating anxiety that originally brought him to it as a teenager. He spreads this philosophy through his unique Yoga Like Water Immersive Teacher Training with some of the most inspiring yoga tutors in the UK, who are all equally passionate about their subject.

What to bring

Please bring your own lunch, or our lovely friends at a local cafe will be happy to bring you a little nutritious box of vegan or veggie goodies for an extra £8. We’d ask that you don’t leave the venue at lunchtime to pick up a lunch, simply so that we can all spend time dining together!

Also, please bring your own yoga mat, comfy yoga clothes and a mug/eco-water carrier (we’ll provide the herbal tees and water).

If you’d like us to bring a yoga mat for you to practice on and takeaway, just let us know and we can bring some gorgeous pre-loved luxury MFML mats for just £25 instead of the usual £57!
