Do you have tight shoulders or suffer from neck and shoulder tension?
Stiff upper back?
Tension headaches?
If you’re working with discomfort or stiffness in your shoulders or upper back, join this workshop with expert yoga teacher Catherine Annis. During the workshop, we’ll explore how we can release this area, identify and re-map dysfunctional movement patterns and return mobility and ease to our movement.
What you’ll learn:
- Structure and function of the shoulder joint
- Targeted techniques to help you change movement habits and release unnecessary tension
- The intimate relationship between the upper spine, shoulders and the breath
Who it’s for:
- Anyone with an office job, or who holds their arms in a fixed position for much of the day
- People with stiff or uncomfortable shoulders / necks
- Anyone rehabbing rotator cuff injuries
- Teachers and practitioners who’d like to learn more about the anatomy and optimal functioning of this area of the body
What you’ll gain:
- Gentle practices to help unpick habitual movement patterns and restore natural mobility
- An understanding of the rotator cuff and how these muscles support our arms and shoulders
- An understanding of which yoga practices can help
- How to adapt movements to make them more accessible for those working with injuries or restrictions
This workshop is suitable for all levels of yoga / movement experience. It would be useful to have a yoga belt, yoga block, yoga bolster and a blanket to hand for the workshop. A belt or bathrobe tie, thick book and cushion will work just as well!

Catherine Annis is well known for her imaginative and practical approach to yoga. In 2017 she created the Intelligent Yoga Teacher Training Course (IYTT), a 12 month, anatomically focused teacher training course with world-leading teacher Gary Carter.
Originally a professional dancer, she discovered yoga as a teenager, and has been practicing since the mid 1970s. Having studied various styles of yoga including Sivananda, Iyengar, Astanga and various forms of Hatha yoga, she eventually gravitated to the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli.
Catherine’s yoga practice and teaching focuses on strategies for downregulating the nervous system, working with breath and subtle somatic work to soothe the mind and create more physical ease for those working with persistent pain, stress and anxiety. She holds a Masters degree in ballet studies, and is a qualified Thai massage practitioner, and it is this interest in the body which informs and inspires her teaching.
The workshop will take place on Zoom and you will receive the link the day before the workshop. If you haven’t received the link please get in touch at least 2 hours before the start of the class.
Can’t make it live? We will be offering a on-demand playback of the workshop for 30 days afterwards, so you don’t have to miss out!
Cost
We know that some of our community sometimes face real cost-dilemmas and that our wellbeing practices can be the first to suffer when life gets hard.
We want you to know that we are here for you.
We therefore offer a ‘Pay As You Can’ for our MFML workshops.
There is a suggested price, which we ask you to pay, if you have the means. The suggested price is the ‘true cost’ of running the workshop, and this is £30.
If, however, finances are getting in the way of you joining, you are welcome to pay what you can afford so that you can still benefit and participate. This is the Buddhist system of Dana. The minimum that we can accept is £15, because as a small business we similarly need to be mindful of our cost considerations.
For those of you who do have the means, please do feel free to pay more than the suggested price to help supplement and support the community and ensure these workshops and gatherings can continue and thrive.
