Live Online Yoga Retreat: The Art of Letting Go

Friday 5th – Sunday 7th November 2021

We are thrilled to be repeating our nourishing and supportive autumn yoga retreat, live online with Lucy McCarthy and Carlene Bogues. The theme of this retreat is the Art of Letting Go.

Why take a live retreat? For many of us, this year has been a challenge. We’ve been greeted with joys, but also challenges. The art of letting go, or the art of surrender, is perhaps one of the most important life skills any of us can develop. This is the art of knowing how and when to move on, how to navigate through life’s often tricky challenges, transitions, twists and turns. An online yoga retreat with MFML offers a way to re-group and to digest the lessons of the year. It is a chance to gather and feel the warmth and power of community. Together, we can find ways to move forward this winter, letting go of all that no longer serves us.

The art of letting go. Letting go is the biggest life lesson of autumn and winter. The trees know that they simply have to let go of their leaves; there would be no buds in spring without the letting go in autumn. All that we do is always reflected in nature. Just as we cannot inhale without first exhaling, we simply must learn to let go to live a full, happy life. We must let go of all that we cannot control, we must let go of our judgements, or attachments, we must let go of everything that is causing us to feel unhealthy.

But our bodies, as well as our minds, often have a tight grip, a constriction, an attachment over things that would serve us better to release. Our bodies often hold physical tension. Our breath can become shallow. Yoga, breathwork and meditation can really help us to let go of the things that we can’t control in life, to let go of tension and stress, to let go of an anxious mind, to really ground and be in the present, surrendering to all that is. This retreat has letting go and the art of surrender as its focus. Like the trees, we will shed all that doesn’t serve us, so that we are able to nourish, replenish and start anew.

This weekend will be a coming together of full-hearted souls. All the sessions are live on zoom, but you may be surprised the soulful connection we are able to achieve in our ‘sangha’ or community of individuals helping one another to work through some of the more challenging practises of life.

The Schedule

All sessions will be hosted live on Zoom and are suitable for all abilities. We recommend you take the whole weekend off as if you were away on retreat (but you don’t have the expense and hassle of travel time. Make the most of the time you ‘haven’t lost’ by giving back to yourself). Luxuriate in self-care this weekend. Spend time in nature, read books, journal, relax, book in a massage or bodywork session and eat nourishing foods.

(All times are GMT)

Friday 5th November

5pm – 7pm

Welcome group circle to set intentions for the retreat with Lucy & Kat, where everyone is welcome to participate and ask questions. Then Lucy will guide you through a slow, deep grounding flow with some breath work so we can arrive into the retreat and into the community with a sense of openness and ease

7pm – 7.30pm

Journalling session with Rakhee on the art of letting go

Saturday 6th November

9am – 10.30am

A warming and uplifting vinyasa yoga class with Lucy, culminating in meditation. This practice will be a heating, fluid and dynamic vinyasa flow practice that invites a deep release of pent up tensions and holding patterns in mind, body and spirit so we can then, through breath work and meditation, move into states of deep inner listening

5pm – 7.30pm

A ‘Slow Vin Yin’ class with Carlene that will explore resistance and awareness through self inquiry of the hips. Expect an activated slow flow vinyasa which moves into a full surrender with a mindful yin section exploring how to let go in a more passive resistance and surrender through the mind and body, as we go through the transition of autumn into winter.

Sunday 7th November

9am – 10.30am

A vinyasa yoga class with yoga nidra meditation to close. This practice will offer a sweet balance of effort & surrender, of doing and non-doing. We will start by progressively opening and awakening the body, steadying the mind and soothing the nervous system through mindful vinyasa flow. We will then drop deep into a deep state of rest and receiving through the wonder that is yoga nidra – a guided laying down practice that embodies the art of letting go

12pm – 1pm

A lunchtime Q&A with Lucy. This is the time to ask any questions of Lucy and have a lovely informal chat with other retreat participants, about the practises, and the art of letting go.

5pm – 6.30pm

Restorative yoga with Lucy plus closing circle and meditation with Lucy & Kat. In our final practice of the retreat we will seal it all together through some breath work followed by restorative yoga. Another perfect practice which embodies the art of surrender as well as the sweetest way to integrate the whole weekend and seal our time together

If you cannot attend a session, don’t worry, we will record the sessions and they will all be available for 14-days after the retreat for you to enjoy.
