Open-heartedness is something that we all aspire to. Coming into every new situation, meeting every new person with an open heart is something that I would love to be able to claim to do, and I would love it if people would do that with one another too. It would mean that we all had no judgements, no expectations and that we’d be able to make the most of each new person and situation entirely based on what’s right there in front of us.  It doesn’t sound hard, but some cultural expectations, judgments and expectations are etched on the mind from our upbringing and it’s hard to lose them! How much more from life would we all get if we were truly were able to live with an open heart?

The Heart Chakra

The Fourth Chakra is the Heart Chakra, the place of compassion, of self-acceptance, of balance and equanimity. We can all feel when something ‘pulls on our heartstrings’ ,that’s compassion, that’s empathy – and it can feel very physically located in our heart centre of the body.  When we open this heart centre, when we are receptive right from the heart, we are able to love each other so much more and give balance and unconditional, un–judgmental love to ourselves too.

Whilst I like to think that my heart is open, I know that I still have work to do on this area to undo tired old barriers and boundaries that 40 years of being a human put up to so-called protect ourselves. But it’s really not protection, that shutting down, it’s a closing off of opportunity and of love, and that’s the biggest worst harm that we can ever do to ourselves.  So to move into open-heartedness, things which can help are being outside in nature more, especially in woodlands. Try practicing classes which open your front body, and backbend from your upper torso (rather than from your precious, bendy lower back). Lucy’s Heart Class is an uplifting, gentle back-bending class which allows us to go out in the world being receptive to all that life has to offer.

I do hope you enjoy a lifetime of heart opening!
