Antonia Ptohides

Antonia Ptohides

Imbued by the fluidity and freedom of movement, which is central to the Pilates Method, Antonia found clear parallels between Classical Pilates and her background as a professional dancer. Antonia’s classes are playful and energetic, focusing on form and technique and following a well established structure that deviates slightly from week to week. A certified instructor (Level 3), Antonia’s Pilates skills were honed by Martin and Heather Sampson of the prestigious Sampson Pilates where she specialised in rehabilitation, Equipment and Mat Work.

Antonia’s dance training started at the tender age of four, achieving a place in the Nicosia youth ballet aged 11. Over her six years as a member of the youth ballet Antonia held numerous leading roles and was selected to extend her training in Montpelier and New York. Graduating from the State School of Athens as a professional Dancer and Dance Teacher in 2009, Antonia earned a scholarship to study for an MA in Movement Studies at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama. Whilst completing her MA, Antonia was intrigued by how Pilates helped rehabilitate injuries and how Joseph Pilates himself collaborated with pioneers of the dance work such as George Balachine and Martha Graham.

Antonia’s Pilates philosophy is based on the six ruling principles of Pilates and highlights the importance of core strength, flexibility and awareness in order to promote spinal alignment and freedom of movement.

Antonia welcomes individuals of all levels of experience to classes as her approach lends itself to all levels of physical fitness and to all ages.

Antonia teaches at Indaba and Good Vibes Studios.
