Often folks struggle with their hips and knees, and it is easy to injure the knees if this pose is not done correctly, so it's worth taking time to get to know how to practice safely. An Ashtanga yoga class featuring mostly standing poses and a focus on backbending. A wonderful, invigorating class, the perfect way to start the day. With sun salutations, standing poses and a few backbends, this is a wonderfully energising but accessible way of practicing Ashtanga. You may need bricks, a belt, a block and a blanket.

Move through deep twists and side crane as preparation and then find the arm balance scissors pose, Eka Pada Koundiyanasana. This pose requires strength and flexibility, suitable for stronger, more advanced practitioners. You may find that a block will help you.

Restore yourself: Drop into stillness
A great yoga class to end a frantic day. This class winds you down and prepares you to drop into deep peaceful sleep. With hatha and restorative poses, this class is a great way into a settled and calming evening. Class starts standing with gentle neck rolls, then gentle hip stretches and finally lying down in long holds so you can drop into a meditative state. Although class calls for two bolsters, rolled blankets or cushions will work just as well.
